Google Business Profile Optimization in 5 Easy Steps

1 — Pick the correct category. Some categories are really cut and dry. If you are a pest control company, pick “pest control”. If you can’t figure it out, look at the top 3 ranking GBPs in your area that offer the same service you do. For example, cleaning companies have to choose between “house cleaning company” and “cleaners”. If most of your rev comes through house cleaning, pick house cleaning.

2 — Fill out the profile top to bottom including the keyword and the location you serve. For example, “Premier Roofing is the number one roofing contractor in Austin Texas.” or “Clean Teeth Dental is the premier dental practice in the Phoenix area.” Both of those are great opening lines for something like a business description. When doing things like updates to the profile, include the keyword and location as well as a photo. “Just wrapped up this sweet roof replacement in Mesa” or “Jasmine got these new veneers at our office in downtown Phoenix.” Be sure the services tab is filled out as well.

3 — Build citations with a consistent NAP (Name, Address, and Phone Number). List yourself in places like YellowPages, Yelp, and the BBB. Make sure the NAP in all of your citations is the exact same as what is reflected on the GBP. If it is not, take the time to go through everything and change it.

4 — Aggressively run up your review count. You can likely push 3-5 per day without running into any issues. Make sure the reviews come from people in your immediate area. Obviously they work best and tend to stick when it’s a real customer. Photos, a lengthy review, and a local guide account help the reviews have more choose. If you know the customer well, have them throw the keyword in the review. “These are the best pest control dudes in Montgomery” actually can make a difference.

5 — Have your friends do some natural CTR for you. If they live in your area, give them a call, ask them to Google your target keyword, open up the maps section, scroll down until they see you, and interact with the profile for 30 seconds or so. Have them ask for directions on the profile and visit the website. The task completion shows Google that you are a real business with people interested.
